Hanna's Bismark Mountain,in the Mayacamas Mountains,is the source for this proprietary blend. Bismark Mountain is the highest vineyard in Sonoma County. The soil is sparse and volcanic in origin. Here we have four blocks of Cabernet Franc, two blocks of Merlot, and one block each of Malbec and Petit Verdot.

Growing season 2001 began warm and became hot. Bismark was much cooler than the valley floor but harvest was still very early. The Malbec was picked September 1 at 25.9 brix. We picked the Cabernet Franc next on September 4 and 5 at 25.6 Brix. This was followed by Merlot on September 9, at 26.1 brix. The Cabernet Sauvignon for this blend was picked September 15 at 26.5 brix. The Petit Verdot hung on until September 29 when we picked it at 25.9 Brix.

This Bismark Noir exhibits dense color, with aromas of cherries and herbs, and a rich, full bodied, and extracted mouthfeel.
