2003 Bismark Mountain Malbec
Rich blackberry flavors, smooth tannins and a lush finish
|

Hanna’s Bismark Mountain Vineyard is the source for this wine. The elevation is 1800-2000 feet. We have two small blocks planted to the notoriously poor setting Malbec. Malbec block 16 is on some of best soils on the ranch. Malbec block 21 is a steeply terraced northwest facing slope.

We picked our Malbec on September 23 and 24 at a perfect 26.7 brix. We punched down and pumped over for optimum color and flavor extraction. It was pressed to taste after nine days in tank. The wine was aged in thin stave French oak barrels from Sylvain and St. Martin. Thirty eight percent was new and the balance was one year old. After 30 months in barrel we racked and filtered the wine in preparation for bottling.

With effusive, rich blackberry flavors, this Malbec presents smooth tannins and a lush finish.
