2004 Bismark Mountain Vineyard Zinfandel
Fruit forward, big and delicious
|

Our Bismark Mountain vineyard located in the Mayacamas Mountains. Two and three quarter acres were planted in 1993. Planted 9 by 4 on very rocky ground. In 2000 we grafted an additional 2676 vines (3.99 acres) to Zinfandel as well as 350 vines to Petite Sirah. In all we have 5 small blocks of Zinfandel at Bismark. Berries are typically small -blueberry sized at maturity.

2004 began with a hot March followed by a very mild and wet spring and cool summer-that is until the third week of August. A heat wave initiated Zin’s tendency to shrivel and the harvest was joined. I began daily trips up the mountain to watch and taste. The idea was to pick just as raisining began. We began picking on August 20, a mere 0.69 tons at 33.8 brix. Over the next 13 days we picked 12 more times, making multiple passes through the various blocks. Taste the wine and I hope you will agree that this effort was worth it.

Fruit forward, big and delicious.
