Asian Flank Steak

This is the perfect, easy grill dinner, with a punch of Asian flavor from the marinade. Just throw some veggies on the grill and make some Asian noodles or rice, and dinner is done. The Merlot has forward blueberry fruit which is just lovely with the Asian spices in the steak, and they in turn bring out the aromatic oak in the wine. A perfect pair!


One flank steak
1/2 cup red wine
1/2 cup soy sauce
Juice of one lime
Two tablespoons minced fresh ginger
Two cloves crushed garlic
One tablespoon Five spice powder
One teaspoon fish sauce
One teaspoon red pepper flakes


Combine all ingredients in a ziplock bag. Coat the steak thoroughly with marinade and place in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight.

Shake off excess marinade and grill to desired doneness, about 5-7 minutes per side.

Serves at least six
