2014 Hanna Pinot Noir 750ml
Number of Cases: 399
Vineyards: Our Home Ranch block 3 Pinot Noir was planted to three clonal selections from Torres, Cambria and Mondavi. The vines were planted 5’ x 9’ on 101-14 & 3309C rootstocks in 1992. In 2008, we planted an additional 12 acres of Pinot using budwood from the original block, along with a 20% interplant of clone 667.
Vintage 2014: Despite the early budbreak in 2014, springtime frost was not an issue, and fruit set was even. Since Spring and Summer were dry and moderate, disease pressure was low. This ideal weather during the growing season resulted in a succulent and well-concentrated Pinot.
Winemaking: The 2014 Pinot Noir was harvested on the morning of September 1, and the night of September 4, 2014. The grapes were gently destemmed while still cool and cold macerated for four to seven days. The three lots were fermented with indigenous yeast, and pressed while still sweet. Only the free run wine was used. The Pinot was 100% barrel aged on lees in 60 gallon French Oak barrels. Forty-four percent were new French Oak barrels, coopered by Marcel Cadet, Billon, Nadalie and Remond.
Tasting Notes: This Pinot is deep garnet in color with brooding aromas of beeswax, pomegranate, Irish breakfast tea, and strawberry pie. By mouth it has flavors of strawberry compote, Bing cherry, toast, spice and vanilla. Texturally it is bright, concentrated, and youthfully firm with a lingering, soft finish. (Tasted 11-24-15)
