2016 Bismark Zinfandel 750ml
Vineyard: Our Bismark Mountain vineyard is located in the Mayacamas Mountains in the Moon Mountain District Sonoma County appellation. Two and three-quarter acres were planted in 1993, 9’ by 4’, on very rocky ground. In 2000 we grafted an additional 2676 vines (3.99 acres) to Zinfandel as well as 350 vines to Petite Sirah. In all we have six small blocks of Zinfandel at Bismark.
Vintage 2016: Following adequate winter rains, the 2016 growing season began early again as the trend toward warmer winters continues. There was almost no frost pressure and the season progressed without significant weather worries. A single heat spike in July was short lived. This was followed by a glorious, easy ripening August and September. We harvested our Bismark Mountain Zinfandel from block 7 on August 30, and block 13/18 on September 15, at an average brix of 29.1.
Tasting Notes: A translucent ruby in color our 2016 Bismark Zinfandel has intense aromas that evoke memories of a morning bakery visit with Raspberry, Marzipan and buttery aromas coming to the fore. Soft and bright by mouth it has flavors of red fruits and orange blossom and vanilla with and long satiny finish. (Tasted 4/30/2018).
