Fifty-eight per cent of the grapes come from our Bismark Mountain Ranch, and the remainng 42% of the grapes came from our Alexander Valley Red Ranch. The Merlot came from blocks 24 & 8 at Bismark, and block 15 from AV. Bismark block 9A was the source of the Petitie Sirah. Most of the Cabernet in the blend originated from Alexander Valley blocks 4, 19, 24 & 17.

2004 was an early, warm year that produced a tiny crop. At both ranches Merlot yields averaged 2.0 tons per acre, and Cabernet averaged 1.8 tons per acre, while the Petite Sirah from Bismark averaged 2.4 TPA. The first Vixen grapes came in from AV block 4 Cab on September 6th. Our Alexander Valley harvest culminated on October 13th, and our Bismark Mountain harvest was completed on October 16th. Sugar at harvest averaged 25.5 Brix.
