The Vineyard
A dry winter and a very dry spring were followed by moderate early-summer temperatures. A heat wave in August ripened the Alexander Valley Merlot adequately for Rosé, and we harvested the few necessary tons at daybreak on August 23rd. The 2007 crop was small. We chose Block 7 Merlot as our Rosé source because of its cool northern exposure and its relatively large crop.

Vintage Notes
We hand sorted the Merlot to remove any green fruit. The grapes were destemmed and cold soaked overnight to achieve color and flavor. We pressed the must the following day. After cold settling we warmed the juice to 55 F and inoculated it with Epernay yeast. A long cool fermentation lasted several weeks. After harvest we racked the wine and blended it with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot and Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was filtered before bottling in January. We grow and vinify our Rosé to be fresh, vibrant, and evocative of the grape itself. We have chosen a tin lined screwcap closure—unsurpassed in its ability to retain our wine’s exuberance. Please note that proper conservation requires cool, even temperatures and the absence of light.
