2022 Hanna Sauvignon Blanc 750ml

Appellation
Russian River Valley

Vineyards: Our Slusser Ranch fruit is the single largest contributor. The blend also includes fruit from Barnwell, Shone Farms, Laguna, Redwood Glen, Mirabelle, Ottar, Wilson, Cameron, and Two Rock.

Russian River Valley 2022: October 2021 brought an atmospheric river event that recharged the soil profile. This led to an even bud break – later than 2021 - strong early growth and a moderate crop. A Goldilocks summer, until Labor Day that is, resulted in even ripening and an early start to harvest. The slope steepened dramatically over Labor Day, with days of high heat pushing sugar accumulation. Our canopy management technique, which retains all the protective leaves, proved to be the perfect antidote to the dehydrating heat that damaged fruit in conventionally farmed vineyards. Our 2022 Sauvignon Blanc was harvested between August 16 and October 5, 2022. The grapes were harvested at an average of 21.6° Brix, TA of 0.8 g/100 mL, and pH 3.25.

Winemaking: Our winemaking begins in the vineyard. We manage the canopies to achieve flavor enhancing filtered light from fruit-set on. Harvesting is done at night by hand or machine depending on vineyard infrastructure and block size. Press cuts on all lots are de rigueur. Our Sauvignon Blanc is fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks, which keeps the wine fresh and bright. Bottling typically takes place from January to July at monthly to bi-monthly intervals.

Winemaker’s notes: We grow and vinify our Sauvignon Blanc to be fresh, vibrant, and evocative of the grapes themselves. We have chosen a tin lined screwcap closure—unsurpassed in its ability to retain our wines exuberance. Please note that proper conservation requires cool, even temperatures and the absence of light.

We have included Thiol and Pyrazine analysis below. Thiols are naturally produced in the fruit and liberated by fermentation. Their concentration is reported in parts per trillion! They are important contributors to Sauvignon Blanc varietal character. 3MH is described as passion fruit, grapefruit. 3MHA is described as boxwood, cat pee or passion fruit, and 4MMP is described as guava and boxwood. Pyrazine is also naturally produced in the fruit. Its aromas are described as bell pepper, or herbal.  This is not an exhaustive list!  Many other compounds not listed- or elucidated for that matter; are contributory. Results Pending 11/22/2022

Tasting Notes: April in Autumn returns. Our fresh 22’s verdant hue in November is magical. Racy pomelo, guava and lime join in chorus with a sweet pea note. A Honeycrisp apple by mouth, this exuberant youngster is of a seamless, delicate, and symmetrical weave. (Tasted 11/18/2022)
