Hanna Rose 2017
Number of Cases: 250
Vineyards: Our Sonoma Rosé is crisp and lively and captures the exuberance that fills harvest’s early days. The 2017 is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon from our Alexander Valley Red Ranch and 46% Pinot Noir from our Home Ranch in Russian River Valley.
Vintage 2017: A welcome, very wet winter filled reservoirs. Spring frost was absent. A relatively dry, cool spring led into a summer with alternating cool and very hot periods. Blocks that were blooming during extremes suffered some shatter but overall the crop size was average. A cool, drippy August was followed by a Labor Day heat wave that pushed harvest into high gear. In warmer Russian River Valley locations we picked furiously until the heat abated. Temperatures then moderated and we were monitoring Alexander Valley Cabernet when the fires began.
Winemaking: We hand sorted the grapes to remove any green or damaged fruit, and then destemmed the grapes into our Diemme press. Pinot was pressed immediately and cold settled in tank. A long, cool fermentation lasted several weeks, then the wine was chilled to cold stabilize. The Cabernet portion was a saignee taken from a post fire Cabernet pick that was not affected by smoke. Bottled in its youth with minimal handling, this dry Rosé has a vibrant natural acidity and low alcohol, bottled at 12.0% Alc, TA 0.77 mg/L and pH 320.
Tasting Notes: A vibrant coral pink in color with aromas and flavors that are reminiscent of white peach, sweet cucumber, blushing strawberry, lime zest and chrysanthemum tea. Texturally, it is both delicate and viscous with a fine a balance of acidity and sweet fruit. (Tasted 3/16/18)
We grow and vinify our Rosé to be fresh, vibrant, and evocative of the grapes themselves. We have chosen a screwcap closure— unsurpassed in its ability to retain our wines exuberance. Our Rosé is bottled with minimal handling shortly after fermentation; therefore, it retains some naturally-produced carbon dioxide which is responsible for the slight effervescence. Please note that proper conservation requires cool, even temperatures and the absence of light.
